FromSoftware's long-running mech-action series puts players behind the controls of heavily customizable machines known as Armored Cores, or ACs. Heads, cores, arms, legs, boosters, weapons, generators, and other systems can turn the same basic machine into a heavyweight walking arsenal, a hyper-mobile duelist, a long-range weapons platform, or whatever other mechanical bad idea gets the contract completed. The details change across the series, but that obsession with building a machine around the job has been part of Armored Core since the original PlayStation game arrived in 1997.

And there is usually a job. Armored Core loves mercenaries, corporations, ruined worlds, competing organizations, questionable employers, and missions where everyone involved seems to have omitted something important from the briefing.
