Cloak

Cloak is Tyrone Johnson, Marvel’s darkness-wielding hero and longtime partner of Dagger, Tandy Bowen.

Tyrone begins as a teenage runaway whose life changes after he and Tandy are exposed to experimental drugs. Both survive, but with radically different abilities. Tandy becomes Dagger, generating brilliant psionic light, while Tyrone becomes connected to the Darkforce Dimension, allowing him to engulf people in supernatural darkness and transport through that shadowy realm. Marvel describes the pair as “Light and Darkness incarnate.”

That contrast is not merely visual.

Marvel specifically describes their relationship as symbiotic: Dagger’s light helps counteract the effects of Cloak’s connection to the Darkforce. Together, Tyrone and Tandy build a long-running crusade against drug trafficking, organized crime, corporate exploitation, and threats affecting people who often have little power to fight back themselves.

Cloak can stand as his own hero, and Tyrone’s sense of responsibility remains central even when he and Tandy operate apart.

But Cloak and Dagger are one of Marvel’s great complementary partnerships.

One brings the light.

The other brings somewhere extremely unpleasant to put the bad guys.
