ThunderCats roared onto television screens in 1985, bringing a mix of sci-fi, sword-and-sorcery adventure, and unforgettable character design to Saturday-morning animation. Produced by Rankin/Bass, the show follows the noble Lion-O and his band of heroic ThunderCats (Tygra, Cheetara, Panthro, WilyKit, WilyKat, and Snarf) as they flee their dying home planet of Thundera and battle the evil sorcerer Mumm-Ra on their new world, Third Earth. With its mix of futuristic tech and ancient mysticism, the series defined the “epic 80s cartoon” aesthetic.

The franchise’s legacy continued through the 2011 reboot and 2020’s ThunderCats Roar, introducing new generations to the characters while keeping that iconic “ThunderCats HOOOOO!” energy alive. Across decades, ThunderCats has remained a staple of nostalgia culture:  a perfect blend of heroic fantasy, bold visuals, and unforgettable catchphrases that continue to electrify collectors and fans alike.
