Koichi Hirose begins Diamond Is Unbreakable looking like the ordinary kid who accidentally wandered into somebody else’s JoJo adventure.

Then he keeps showing up.

Initially timid and unsure of himself, Koichi becomes one of Josuke Higashikata’s closest friends and one of Morioh’s most dependable Stand users. His growth is gradual, which is exactly why it works. Courage does not suddenly replace fear. Koichi learns that he can be frightened, overwhelmed, or completely outmatched and still decide to act.

His Stand, Echoes, develops alongside him. Rather than appearing as one finished ability, Echoes evolves through multiple ACT forms as Koichi’s confidence and determination grow. Its powers change dramatically along the way, eventually reaching Echoes ACT3, a small humanoid Stand capable of dramatically increasing a target’s weight.

That progression makes Koichi one of the clearest examples in JoJo of a Stand reflecting personal development. He does not become reliable because he discovers some hidden tough-guy personality. He becomes reliable because experience teaches him when to trust himself.

By the time veteran fighters like Jotaro Kujo are willing to put enormous responsibility in Koichi’s hands, the nervous kid from the beginning has become someone friends can count on when things turn dangerous.

Koichi never needs to become the loudest person in Morioh. He just becomes the person who stays.
