Josuke Higashikata is the teenage protector at the center of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, a good-hearted Morioh kid with a powerful Stand, an easygoing attitude, and one spectacularly sensitive subject involving his hair.

Josuke is the son of Joseph Joestar and possesses Crazy Diamond, a close-range Stand with tremendous strength and the ability to restore damaged objects or injured people. That healing power immediately separates him from many other JoJo protagonists. Josuke can hit with frightening force, but some of his most important victories come from putting things back together.

That instinct fits his personality. He is impulsive, playful, occasionally greedy, and perfectly willing to bend a rule when it sounds entertaining, but his strongest reactions usually appear when somebody threatens the people or town he cares about. Morioh is not simply where his adventure happens. Protecting it becomes part of who he is.

And then there is the pompadour.

Mock Josuke’s hair and diplomacy leaves the building. His hairstyle honors a stranger who helped him during a childhood emergency, giving an otherwise ridiculous trigger a surprisingly sincere emotional core.

This is specifically the Josuke of Diamond Is Unbreakable. Later JoJo stories introduce another character with the same name, but Part 4 Josuke remains unmistakable: compassionate healer, heavy hitter, hometown hero, and absolute enemy of unsolicited hairstyle criticism.
