John Stewart is one of Earth’s great Green Lanterns, a veteran, architect, strategist, and intergalactic hero whose strength comes from far more than the power ring on his hand.
Introduced as an alternate Green Lantern for Hal Jordan, John quickly established an identity entirely his own. His discipline and tactical thinking helped carry him from substitute Lantern to one of the Green Lantern Corps’ most respected leaders. He has defended Earth, patrolled the far reaches of space, stood alongside the Justice League, and faced catastrophes capable of testing even a willpower-powered superhero.
John’s architectural background gives his ring constructs a particularly memorable character. Rather than imagining only the outer shape of an object, he mentally builds his creations from the inside out, giving them working structure down to the smallest mechanical details. When John makes a construct, apparently even imaginary machinery needs proper engineering.
That precision fits the man. John is serious, direct, courageous, and intensely aware of the responsibility attached to the power he carries. He has endured enormous personal losses without abandoning the ideals of the Corps.
Many heroes have worn a Green Lantern ring. John Stewart does not disappear inside the title. Whether he is wearing the uniform in comics, animation, or on screen, he remains unmistakably John.
