Gray Fullbuster is one of anime’s greatest examples of “cool guy energy”…
both metaphorically and literally.
A core member of Fairy Tail, Gray is an Ice-Make Mage capable of shaping weapons, tools, and massive attacks from ice with incredible speed and creativity. Calm, sarcastic, and endlessly competitive, he acts as one of Fairy Tail’s strongest fighters and one of Natsu’s all-time greatest rivals.
And yes… they absolutely fight like brothers constantly.
What makes Gray especially fun is the contrast between his laid-back personality and the emotional weight he carries. Beneath the cool exterior is a character shaped by loss, determination, and the drive to protect the people closest to him. Like many Fairy Tail characters, his greatest strength ultimately comes from connection and loyalty.
Also… we do need to address the shirt situation.
Gray has an almost supernatural tendency to accidentally remove his clothes without noticing, a running joke that somehow never stops being funny because the series commits to it so hard. It became one of the character’s defining quirks alongside his ice powers and deadpan attitude.
Fans love Gray because he balances style, humor, and emotional storytelling incredibly well. His battles are visually awesome, especially once his Devil Slayer powers enter the picture, and his rivalry/friendship dynamic with Natsu remains one of the franchise’s emotional backbones.
And yes, the renewed attention from 100 Years Quest absolutely helped bring Gray and the rest of the classic Fairy Tail crew back into the spotlight with new collectibles and merch.
Also… yeah… if the ice wizard walks into battle already missing half his clothes?
That’s apparently how you know he’s focused.
